In the market for the new iPhone6 or iPhone 6 Plus? Thinking about upgrading from your iPhone 5s or older iPhone? Let me help you decide.
I pre-ordered the iPhone 6 Plus and have been playing with it for several days now. I already think it’s the best iPhone ever. However, I do understand that not everyone wants a big phone. Some may wonder if they should even upgrade to the smaller iPhone 6. In this article I will cover the iPhone 6 Plus vs iPhone 6 vs iPhone 5s comparison. I will give you my thoughts on which iPhone you should get and why.
iPhone 6 Plus vs iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s
In my opinion, the 6 Plus is clearly superior to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s. It’s the best iPhone ever made! The battery life alone makes it better. The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 5s will struggle to last a day with moderate usage. The 6 Plus has lasted me until the middle of the next day before needing a charge.
The big screen gives the iPhone 6 plus a versatility advantage over the iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s. The 6 plus can serve as a phone, a tablet, a portable video player, or as a handheld video game system. Sure, you can do all of this on the smaller screens but why would you want to?
The 6 Plus has optical image stabilization (OIS). This feature helps to ensure that your stills and video recordings are smooth, not blurred or shaky. Thus, this feature will increase the quality of your photos and videos. OIS is only available on the iPhone 6 Plus.
I do have to concede that one hand operation on the 6 Plus can be a chore. However, I think the pros of the big screen out weighs the cons. Plus, I see friends and coworkers holding the 5s with two hands all of the time. Probably more often than they realize.
Of note, the 6 Plus sold out quicker than the 6 ahead of the launch. This could be due to supply issues with the bigger screen and not due to demand. Hopefully Apple will let us know for sure.
Verdict: Buy or upgrade to the iPhone 6 Plus regardless of which iPhone you currently have!
iPhone 6 vs iPhone 5s
Differences between the iPhone 6 vs the iPhone 5s are less drastic vs the iPhone 6 Plus. The obvious advantage the iPhone 6 has over the 5s is the big, beautiful screen. While the screen size may not seem significant, the difference is pretty obvious when you see both phones together. The bigger screen provides you with a larger view of your content. In some instances, the extra screen size may allow you to fit more content on the screen.
The iPhone 6 camera is slightly better than the 5s camera. It has faster auto focusing, can shoot HD at 60fps, and can shoot slow motion at 240fps. These are all improvements over the 5s (30fps HD, and 120fps slow motion respectively) but not everyone will benefit from these changes.
The iPhone 6 will be slightly faster than the 5s. Will you notice the difference during normal use? Probably not.
At the time of this writing, the iPhone 5 is cheaper. You can go into any store today and find a 5s. The iPhone 6 is sold out in most places. Purchasing an iPhone 6 right now means waiting a couple of weeks for it.
The iPhone 5s is more pocketable. However, I doubt most people will have a problem finding room in their pocket for the iPhone 6.
Ultimately, I’m not sure if there’s enough in the iPhone 6 to warrant an upgrade from the iPhone 5s. Perhaps the best way to decide is to try out both units together and see the differences.
Verdict: Buy a new iPhone 6 over a new 5s, but if you already have a 5s, wait until the 6s comes out before you upgrade.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus vs iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, etc.
If you have an iPhone 5 or older phones, and are able to upgrade at discount pricing, you should upgrade to the iPhone 6 Plus. The big screen, great camera, and great battery life are well worth the upgrade.
While I don’t generally recommend the iPhone 6 over the 6 Plus, if you think the big phone isn’t good for you, or if you want to say $100, the iPhone is a worthy upgrade as well. Be sure to hold onto your receipt however. I think you will eventually change your mind and go for the bigger phone!
